Egypt tenders Nile Ferry PPP

19 May 2016 Egyptian authorities have issued a request for qualification (RFQ) for the Nile River Bus Ferry Project.
The Cairo Governorate represented by the Cairo Transport Authority, with technical assistance from the PPP Central Unit of the Ministry of Finance, is seeking pre-qualification applications for a 25-year PPP contract to finance, develop and operate the project in Cairo.
The existing Nile River Bus Ferry has only nine boats in operation, while the terminals suffer from a high degree of deterioration which reduces the number of people able to use the service.
Under the PPP, the private partner will purchase, finance and operate the River Transport Fleets (30 boats), plus design, build, finance, operate and maintain 16 existing terminals and 14 new terminals. RFQs are due by 29 June.
EY is the transaction and financial adviser and lead member of an advisory team comprised of Eversheds, WSP, Dorsch and local partners.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is supporting the project.
