Spanish giant Ferrovial has signed an agreement with Telefónica Tech to help develop smart 5G highway technologies.
The 5G technology will play a “key role in developing the infrastructure of the future”, Ferrovial said, adding that it will “transform formerly passive roads by enabling them to supply information to vehicles that improves travellers’ experience and safety”.
Telefónica Tech will join the AIVIA Orchestrated Connected Corridors consortium, which features Microsoft, 3M, Kapsch TrafficCom and Capgemini, to help develop the high-speed technologies.
“This project arose out of Ferrovial’s ongoing bid to create the infrastructures of the future,” said Dimitris Bountolos, chief information and innovation officer at Ferrovial.
