Architects LS3P have released drawings of the new site, which is to be developed through a recently agreed memorandum of understanding with Zimmer Development Co.
The agreement, which was backed by county officials in March, will see the firm deliver a new Cape Fear Museum and New Hanover County Public Library main branch, while there is also the potential for the development of new residential properties once the public infrastructure has been completed.
Known as Project Grace, the initiative is based around Second, Third and Grace streets.
A final design is expected to be completed early next year, while Zimmer continues to draw up plans for the private development portion of the scheme.
