Voters back transportation investment

While all eyes were on the White House, support for investment in transportation reached a 20-year high, according to one analysis.

The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) tracked measures that were put to the ballot across 19 states during the November 3 poll, finding that 94% of state and local ballot initiatives were approved by voters.

The approval rate (303 out of 322 finalized) was the highest level in the 20 years ARTBA has been tracking such initiatives, it said, adding that the agreements amount to an additional $14 billion in one-time and recurring revenue for transportation improvements.

However, despite the successes, ARTBA noted that several major proposals that had been due to be on ballots across the country were postponed this year because of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
