Maryland county opens broadband P3 project

Worcester County, Maryland, has released a request for proposals (RFP) for a fiber-to-the-premises project.

Worcester County, Maryland, has released a request for proposals (RFP) for a fiber-to-the-premises project.

In a bid to bring connectivity to rural areas of the county, the authority is looking to the private sector to install gigabit-class broadband infrastructure to as many as 6,400 homes and businesses.

The preferred technology to be installed would be fiber-to-the-premises, but the authority is willing to consider other options.

The County also states that it is looking to form a “grant-enabled public-private partnership” which will leverage available funds to help the private partner capital investment that it understands may be “difficult to recover”.

The County said: “We look forward to the opportunity to work with the private sector to meet our community’s broadband goals.”

The deadline for proposals is November 30, 2020. Notices of intent to submit must be received by November 16.
