Transport Secretary departs MDOT

Transportation Secretary Pete K. Rahn has stepped down from the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT).

According to local news reports he will return to his native New Mexico, where his family resides. He has been commuting to Maryland since taking the top job at the Department of Transportation in 2015.

Gregory Slater, currently the head of the State Highway Administration, will take over as Transportation Secretary. Slater will take over on January 1. His appointment is subject to confirmation by the Maryland Senate.

 An original member of the Hogan cabinet, Rahn oversaw the USD5.7bn agency that includes the State Highway Administration, the Maryland Transit Administration, BWI Marshall Airport and the Port of Baltimore. He also serves as chairman of the Maryland Transit Authority.
