Vote on Maryland P3 program postponed

Maryland’s Board of Public Works (BPW) will consider approving the I-495 and I-270 P3 Program later this month.

The item was officially removed from today’s meeting of the three-member board and is to be placed on the December 18, 2019.

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot requested that Maryland Department of Transportation Item 6-GM be removed from Wednesday's agenda of the Board of Public Works, and placed instead on the agenda for the next meeting.

Franchot said: “This item, as proposed, would substantially accelerate and broaden the existing agreement to widen the Capital Beltway and Interstate 270, and contains important revisions to the proposal that was approved by the BPW this past June.”

The three-member board also includes the governor and treasurer. However, Lt. Governor Boyd K. Rutherford chaired today’s meeting.

According to the preliminary timeline in the agenda for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the P3 Program, a request for qualifications was to be issued on December 10, with responses due February 28, and a shortlist expected by April.
