Spain 'a bridge' between Europe and LatAm infra

Spain's infrastructure minister has said his country can act as “a bridge between Europe and Latin America” in the development of infrastructure.

Speaking at a conference organized by the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), Minister of Public Works José Luis Ábalos said that he wanted to see Spain's public companies in the Ministry of Development working more with the private sector to internationalize their activities.

“We have a challenge with the public companies of the Ministry of Development such as Renfe, Adif, Aena in trying to internationalize its business which I think might be able to collaborate with the private sector abroad,” he said.

“I’m also a firm supporter of the Ibero-American Community of Nations where I think Spain can play a very important role as a bridge between Europa and Latin America not just because we have cultural bonds but also to promote the infrastructure sector.”

Ábalos also reaffirmed his commitment as Spain's new infrastructure minister to continue with the Budget as it was planned under the previous administration, suggesting that a series of road P3s are still on the agenda in Spain.
