IDB backs Lima Metro

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is to provide $750m to develop the Lima Metro P3.

The IDB has announced the approval of a package of loans to assist the Peruvian government for the expansion of the line.

“Besides being the largest project undertaken by a public-private partnership in the history of Peru, the expansion of the Metro will raise Lima's public transportation to the level required by a modern metropolis,” said Hans Schulz, interim IDB vice president for the private sector and non-sovereign guaranteed operations.

ProInversión has granted the contract to Nuevo Metro de Lima after it requested $3.7bn in financing from the state, which was less than the maximum amount set by the economy and finance ministry
