Honduras awards P3 airport

Public authority Coalianza has awarded the Palmerola airport scheme.

Inversiones Emco, through its airport operator Munich Airport, has been awarded the design, build, finance, operate and maintain contract for the Palmerola International Airport in Comayagua.

The firm submitted technical and economic proposals on December 18. Under the regulations, the team was automatically awarded the project on Monday this week after Coalianza checked the proposal.

The concession involves the operation and maintenance of the airport for 30 years, with an initial investment of up to $140m. Of that, $90m is to come from the private operator and the remainder from the government of Spain through a development fund for Honduras.

Palmerola is the location of US Military’s Soto Cano Air Force Base, the main headquarters of the US Southern Command.
