Consultation launched for BC highway

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone has launched the third phase of consultation on the George Massey Tunnel Replacement Project in British Columbia.

The government released design and cost details of the estimated $3.5bn project, which will see a new 10-lane bridge built over the Fraser River at Highway 99.

Following the announcement, the consultation will run through January 28, 2016. Following the consultation, the ministry will finalize the project scope and cost estimate, and submit the project application for environmental review.

Final decisions made by the government will take into consideration the feedback received, along with remaining technical studies and the environmental review. Construction will then begin in 2017.

As previously reported by P3 Bulletin, the project has been touted as a potential P3 by Partnerships BC, with a decision on the procurement model to be decided next year.
