Peru targets port P3s

Peru’s Minister of Transport and Communications has lined up three port projects to be delivered via P3.

Projects to modernize transit infrastructure through private finance include the ports of Salaverry, Chimbote and Marcona.

Minister Bruno Giuffra said that the Salaverry port project will be awarded in 30 days to the sole bidder if no more offers are received. The $215m project involves the construction of a new terminal plus dredging of sand to allow the entrance of large vessels.

"The concession projects for the ports of Chimbote (Accash) and Marcona (Ica) are the next to enter [P3 agency] ProInversion," he said.

Marcona Port will strengthen the transport for the mining sector and will also allow the drafting of vessels of significant capacity. The ministry is also planning to launch concessions for the port of Ilo and river terminals for the ports of Iquitos and Pucallpa.
