Carillion appoints former Costain chief

Developer Carillion has appointed a non-executive director with experience of working with firms at times of financial stress.

Alan Lovell has joined the firm to serve on the audit, remuneration, nomination, sustainability and business integrity committees.

Chairman Philip Green said: "We are very pleased that Alan Lovell has joined the board. He has very relevant experience of the challenges currently faced by Carillion and I look forward to his contribution as we move forward with our disposal and cost saving programs while continuing our discussions with our lenders and other stakeholders to explore further ways of strengthening Carillion's balance sheet.”

Currently chairman of the Consumer Council for Water, Flowgroup and the Association of Lloyd's Members, Lovell has worked “with companies at times of financial stress”.

He filled several chief executive roles, including at Infinis, Costain Group and Jarvis and was also an executive director at Conder Group, which went into receivership in September 1992.

Meanwhile, Carillion has appointed a new chief executive officer.
