The Auckland Light Rail Group has invited technical firms to join the preparations of its flagship NZ$14.6bn project.

Under the plans, a 24km light rail line is envisaged, featuring 18 stops and a tunnel from Wynyard Quarter to Mt Roskill.

The winning team will help develop the pre-construction planning phase for the Auckland Light Rail, also an indicative business case for the Additional Waitematā Harbour Connections project.

Earlier this year, the authority announced that it was working on a business case for the project, with a range of financing options set to be considered.

“This is a mega project that has never been seen before in New Zealand. So we have put the call out to a range of local and international firms to bring us their real skills and experience for how light rail will work best here,” said Auckland Light Rail Group project director, Tommy Parker.
