The Ministry of Defence has released a prior information notice (PIN) for a five year extension to its Strategic Sealift project.

The Ministry of Defence has released a prior information notice (PIN) for a five year extension to its Strategic Sealift project.

The current Sealift project, once the largest PFI project signed by the ministry, is set to expire in 2024, and as a result a “new project” has been launched to provide a new contract for an “interim period of five years”.

Designed to help with transporting and distributing military equipment, the ice-breaker capable roll-on-roll-off cargo vessels are part of a £950m concession that was operational in 2003, 20 months earlier than scheduled.

According to the tender, further details on future industry engagement will be released this year.
