Sheffield uni partnership plans get go-ahead

Plans to deliver Sheffield Hallam University’s city campus through an innovative joint venture arrangement have been approved.

Sheffield City Council has given the green light to the first phase of redevelopment, which will see three new buildings delivered around a public University Green.

The initiative is being driven through a new partnership model known as the Hallam Alliance, which will see the university working alongside BDP-Arup (design-led consultancy), BAM (construction) and CBRE (facilities management). Mace and Fulcrum are providing scheme and programme management services.

Under the alliance, the partnership will share profits and losses in the venture, “so that its incentives to work efficiently are aligned from the outset and throughout the delivery of the schemes”.

Construction is due to begin in early 2022 and be completed in the second half of 2023.
