A joint venture agreement to deliver the regeneration of Prestwich has been approved by Bury Council.
The council’s cabinet has backed plans to enter into a 50:50 joint venture arrangement with Muse Developments.
Bury Council has bought the Longfield Centre and will submit this to the joint venture, which will now work on a masterplan that will seek to establish Prestwich as “a vibrant and connected mixed-use destination”.
Among the aims of the regeneration are extensive public realm improvements and investments that will stimulate business growth and cultivate enterprise. A new community hub will form the heart of the redevelopment, while there will also be a strong focus on sustainability.
“We’re looking forward to meeting the community in due course to discuss these proposals and work with them to bring them forward together,” said David Burkinshaw, development director at Muse Developments.
“This is the biggest single investment we have ever put into Prestwich as we are determined to transform the town and bring about much-needed improvement for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors,” added Eamonn O’Brien, leader of Bury Council.
