Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) has cancelled its procurement of the Orange Line extension, following a legal dispute.
Under the plans, a new $4.6bn extension of the underground line was supposed to connect the east and west of Bangkok as part of the city’s mass transit plans.
Although already at the RFP stage, potential bidder Bangkok Mass Transit System Plc took the authority to court to restart the auction, citing competition issues after bidding terms were changed.
The first phase of the Orange Line is already under construction and is set to open in 2024, this second phase was envisioned to open two years after. A new timeline is not yet known as the authority will now have to restart the procurement.
