Kazakhstan planning small PPPs

Large infrastructure off the cards as country prioritises smaller infrastructure

Chairperson of the Kazakhstan PPP Center, Talgat Matayev, has said he is focusing on smaller infrastructure projects rather than the mega deals that some other states have delivered via PPP.

He said: “We are actively developing a so-called ‘small PPP’ that is intensively accelerating in the regions. The same cannot be said for other countries, where the focus is on developing the large infrastructure projects.”

On October 15, the Kazakhstan’s International Sector Public-Private Partnership Investment Forum laid out the plan to use small PPPs to attract foreign investment into towns and villages in a bid to help them survive and recover from the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
