Cardiff housing scheme reappoints partner

Cardiff Council has formally appointed its partner for the second and third phases of its 10-year, 1,500 homes initiative.

The authority has formally appointed Wates Residential to continue in the delivery of its Cardiff Living partnership, with the team already having delivered over 300 homes through the first phase of the scheme.

By formally appointing Wates to the next two phases, it means the firm will be in charge of delivering 1,500 new homes by 2027. Phases two and three will see at least 40% of homes earmarked for council rent or sale via the authority’s assisted home ownership scheme.

The Cardiff Living partnership has so far completed 343 homes at seven locations across the city since its formation in 2016.

“Starting the process for the next two phases of the programme is an exciting step forward for Cardiff Living,” said Edward Rees, regional director for Wates Residential.

“We’re delighted to be continuing the partnership with Wates Residential and can look forward to utilising innovative construction methods and sustainable technologies to create high quality homes fit for the future,” added Cardiff Council’s cabinet member for housing and communities, Lynda Thorne.
