Mongolia looks to PPPs to unlock natural resources

Consultants sought to help mining projects come forward

The World Bank, in conjunction with the Government of Mongolia, is looking for economic advisors to help unlock the nation’s mining resources.

The consultants will help the multilateral develop a strategy for “more fiscally sustainable and inclusive development of mineral resources” by providing the “economic and technical underpinning for the World Bank to identify suitable reforms”.

Under the plans, the study will consider how PPPs have been used in other mineral rich countries to deliver regional developments enabling extracting, adding that the current public funding is “sub-optimal” and “there are viable alternatives to combine public and private capital”.
