Johnson: We must let private sector get on with it

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s speech to the Conservative Party conference has targeted a green revolution to rebuild the economy.

Speaking at the virtual conference, Johnson said his government would create a “green industrial revolution” over the next decade that would see every household in the country benefitting from offshore wind power by 2030.

To reach that aim, the prime minister said the government would invest in ports and other facilities to ensure offshore wind power could be delivered across the country.

“With the help of basic, natural phenomena, we will build back and bounce back stronger,” he added.

Johnson also insisted there would be a strong role for the private sector in the government’s strategy to ‘build back better’.

“There comes a moment when the state must stand back and let the private sector get on with it,” he said.
