Transurban focuses on delivery

Toll road operator Transurban has suggested it will not aggressively bid for new projects, instead focusing on delivering existing deals, following its half-year results.

Chief executive Scott Charlton said the firm is focusing on delivering its nine committed projects “safely and successfully over the next five years”.

The Australian firm is therefore not looking to bid on new projects, as it continues to grapple with the delivery of its WestConnex deal.

“After the WestConnex transaction we have pivoted into three priority areas that we are working on delivering,” Charlton said, referring to the firm’s focus on delivering committed projects, maximising its operations performance and enhancing customer and community offerings.

Transurban’s half-year results from July to September saw pre-tax profit of $26m, down from $194m in the same period the previous year, in part due to the increased costs associated with the WestConnex project.
