French city scraps convention centre concession

A French city has cancelled a €1.2bn concession for a convention centre.

The City of Marseille has halted procurement of partners for the Parc Chanot convention and exhibition centre in order to revise the tender documents.

The authority issued a notice in mid-July for partners to design, build, finance, operate and maintain new exhibition facilities, integrating an area of approximately 40,000sq m.

Under the 30-year contract, the winner would have delivered an events hall with a capacity of 6,000 seats, if deemed appropriate.

The authority estimated that the value of the concession would have decreased from €1.2bn to €970m without the events hall element.
