Skanska takes on MoD PFI

Contractor Skanska has acquired a PFI deal from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) that had previously been run by Carillion.

Skanska has won the contract for the Northwood HQ in Hertfordshire, where it will provide all non-military facilities management services for the remaining 13 years of the PFI deal.

Northwood HQ is made up of the UK military headquarters, NATO maritime headquarters and an EU operations headquarters, with 2,500 military personnel working on the site and over 850 people living on the base.

The contract has been awarded by Eastbury Park, the vehicle that was created by Carillion and HSBC Infrastructure Fund Management when the contract was signed back in 2006.

"There is an excellent team in place to support this important operation and I look forward to seeing the relationship go from strength to strength in the coming years,” said Adam McDonald, Skanska managing director.
