A meeting of the cabinet yesterday approved a recommendation to look further into the possibilities that are raised by undertaking the refinancing of its waste PFI deal in Great Blakenham.
A document put before the committee suggested that the authority could make £10.4m savings over the remaining life of the contract.
Discussions are already taking place between the environment ministry and private partner Suez, and the cabinet committee decision yesterday means that those talks will continue, with officials required to report back to the cabinet before any final agreement is reached.
