A consortium including International Company for Water and Power Projects (Acwa Power) and Saudi Brothers’ Commercial Company secured the contract.
The Water and Electricity Company (WEC), fully owned by the Ministry of Finance, also selected a team of Marubeni Corporation, Abdul Latif Jameel Commercial Development Company, Acciona Agua and Rawafid Alhadarah as the reserve bidder.
The winner will develop, finance, operate and maintain a desalination plant with a capacity of 600,000 m3/day.
WEC issued a request for expressions of interest for the project in August 2017.
