Kenya to reduce support measures for PPPs

The Kenyan government has released a new policy document that aims to reduce the use of government support measures (GSMs) for privately backed projects.

Its latest policy document on the issue highlights the range of ways in which GSMs are used to support investment in the country, including on PPP deals.

However, the document says: "It is government’s intention over the medium to long term to greatly reduce the utility and scope of GSMs, as private parties build stronger trust in public investments."

The National Treasury said it will develop guidelines, practice notes and templates regarding its plans for GSMs over the next six months.
