UK - Skanska tipped for Barts project

£620m hospital close to announcing preferred bidder

The St Bartholomew PFI contract is rumoured to be near to reaching preferred bidder with a consortium led by Skanska.

The UK’s biggest ever hospital PFI scheme includes a complete redevelopment of the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel and the conversion of St Bartholomew into a specialist cardiac and cancer hospital. When the massive scheme was first advertised in February 2002, the Trust had difficulty attracting bidders due to the large-scale of the project.

Skanska/Innisfree is now in negotiations with Barts and The London NHS Trust and will be named preferred bidder if certain conditions can be resolved. Financial close is expected to be announced by October 2004 with construction work starting shortly after.
