UK - Royal Melbourne Show to be redeveloped under PPP

Victorian government selects PPP Solutions

The Victorian Government have selected the PPP Solutions consortium comprising Babcock & Brown, Multiplex, Spotless Services and Daryl Jackson Architects as the preferred bidder for the $101m PPP redevelopment scheme for the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds. The consortium will be responsible for the DBFO of the project and will maintain the facilities for 25 years.

The 27-hectare Showgrounds will be divided into one area to house the show and another area that can be developed. The consortium would be entitled to use show facilities in the 50 weeks they are not used for the show.

The main arena and exhibition space will be cut by half. Three of four historic grandstands will be demolished, some other heritage buildings will either be removed or altered and a large shopping complex will be built.

The project aims to contribute to the growth of the State’s agribusiness sector, and creating a flexible, multi-purpose events and exhibition precinct, are amongst the project’s key objectives.
