The Gauteng Provincial Government will open the tender process for the Chris Hani Baragwanath (CHB) Academic Hospital Revitalisation Project by the end of the year, signifying a milestone for healthcare projects in the province.
CHB will be the first hospital in the area to be procured on a design, finance, build and maintain basis. The contract duration is yet to be determined.
"We are committed to work with the private sector to improve infrastructure service delivery to the people of Gauteng," Gauteng finance minister Mandla Nkomfe told reporters.
The project involves the construction of a totally new hospital building at the Lilian Ngoyi site. Once completed, it will be the largest academic referral hospital in the province.
Nkonfe added that the government was also looking to use PPP to fund sanitation and solid waste treatment projects in the region - the first of which is expected to be announced in November.
