The Indiana Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the Indiana Finance Authority, are seeking a private firm for the development and operation of a toll collection system for the section of the project, currently under construction between Louisville, Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
As part of the two RFPs, the project’s multi-state joint board has approved the agencies to issue the tenders within the next three months.
The IDOT will issue its tender for the purchase of the technology related to the toll collection.
In addition, The Indiana Finance Authority will then initiate a separate procurement for a Toll System Provider, this will oversee roadside and back office systems, systems integration and operational services.
An agreement was signed by Indiana and Kentucky at the start of the year to split the cost of the $2.6bn P3 project.
Indiana has reached financial close on its share of the wider P3, after signing a deal with WVB East End Partners under a design, build, finance, operate and maintain framework in March.
Kentucky will oversee financing and construction of the downtown portion, which includes a new I-65 bridge. The project had been hit with delays last month however, after the states failed to reach a decision on future toll charges.
