Winner for Aussie rail PPP

The state of Queensland has selected a preferred bidder for its new rolling stock PPP.

The Bombardier NGR consortium has been chosen ahead of rival team Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles and Mitsubishi Corporation for the project to deliver 75, six-car train sets in the region.

As reported by PPP Bulletin in September, it had been expected that a winner would be chosen before the Christmas period, paving the way for financial close early next year.

Both teams were shortlisted for the project in March of this year. As part of the project, Bombardier will now be responsible for the design, delivery, finance and maintenance of the trains over a 30-year contract alongside the construction and maintenance of a purpose-built maintenance centre in Ipswich.
