Firms circle Philippines water project

A number of private firms have expressed an interest in a proposed water PPP in the Philippines.

According to local press reports, water concessionaire Maynilad Water Services and the San Miguel Corp have expressed an interest in the Bulacan Water Supply, which is under consideration to be tendered as a PPP.

As part of the proposals, the project will supply potable water to 24 areas in Bulacan province, which makes up part of the government’s Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System.

The project is part of numerous deals recently approved by the National Economic and Development Authority following the typhoon that hit the country.

Separately, the New Centennial water supply source project will no longer be procured as a PPP over fears that the supply would be taken out of public control.
