Philippines signs solar PPP

The city of Marawi in the Philippines has signed a PPP contract for a new solar power plant.

The project, which is set to be Asia’s largest power plant outside China, was signed by Lim Solar Philippines and Mayor Fahad Panarigan Umpar Salic on behalf of the Islamic City of Marawi.

The signing of the PPP agreement kicks off the implementation of the Marawi City Solar Photovoltaic Power Park, with the construction of the $15m 5MW solar PV power plant at Barangay Malimono. It will be followed by the construction of additional 30MW power plants costing some $90m.

Construction is to start in April next year, and the entire 35MW capacity is expected to be commissioned and commercial operations started within the first half of 2015.
