Tanzania tables bill for PPP centre

The Tanzanian government has published a bill seeking to amend its current PPP laws.

The Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, (Investment and Empowerment), Dr Mary Nagu, has tabled the bill, which will create a new PPP Centre for the country to improve coordination and delivery of projects.

Nagu explained in Parliament that the new organisation would take over responsibilities from two existing units and would come under the remit of the Prime Minister’s Office.

The amendment law will also include the creation of technical committees, a national investment steering committee and a PPP facilitation fund to help improve the progress of projects and enable more schemes to come into the pipeline.

Among the projects in Tanzania’s PPP early pipeline is a railways scheme and a power plant initiative.
