Vietnam ‘needs $11bn for infra'

Vietnam’s infrastructure gap is widening and private sector investment will be vital to tackling the problem, according to a government official.

Nguyen Viet Huy, deputy head of the Department of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Projects, spelled out the scale of the country’s needs at a recent seminar on infrastructure.

He suggested that greater efforts are needed to attract overseas investment into the country, because government cash and official development assistance could not provide enough alone.

Big ticket infrastructure projects such as the Long Thanh international airport, which is already being readied by the Ministry of Transportation as a potential PPP deal.
