Deadline extended for Philippines rail PPP

The Philippines Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has extended the deadline of the submission of pre-qualification documents for the North-South Railway Project – South Line project.

The change in the timetable for the $3.7bn project, comes following the request of bidders for an extension. The project will now have its submission date on 1 December, over the original 15 October.

By changing the submission deadline, perspective bidders will have more time to properly prepare documents for what is considered one of the most important PPP projects the country is developing.

The proposed NSRP South Line PPP covers Metro Manila to Legazpi City, Albay, plus a number of existing and proposed branch lines totaling to approximately 653 km. It consists of commuter railway operations between Tutuban and Calamba and long haul railway operations between Tutuban and Legazpi, including extended long haul rail operations on the branch line between Calamba and Batangas and extension between Legazpi and Matnog.

As well as building the railway, the winner will be tasked with modernising train stations and depot facilities; repairing rail bridges; providing electric multiple unit-based rolling stock and automatic fare collection systems.
