Deadline extended for Philippines dike

The Philippines government has delayed the bidding on its Laguna Lakeshore Expressway and Dike Project until next year.

The bid submission deadline for the project has been moved to January of 2016. Bidding had previously been planned for November with an award due in December.

"The extension of bid submission was at the request of bidders and also we are still awaiting the release of a proclamation on the portion of land reclamation," said Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson.

Under the plans, the winning bidder will finance, design, construct, operate, and maintain the expressway-dike for 37 years, including a seven-year construction phase.

It will also have to build interchanges, bridges, floodgates, and pumps from Taguig to Los Banos, and reclaim 700 hectares located west of and abutting the expressway-dike.

In March, three groups pre-qualified for the project. This is the second delay to the scheme, after prospective bidders asked the pre-qualification deadline to be pushed back in January.
