A development application (DA) for the optional extension of the line to Russell will be included with the application for stage one of the line, running from the city to Gungahlin, Minister for Capital Metro Simon Corbell said.
“Getting DA approval places us in the best position to proceed with the extension to Russell should the government choose to do so,” he said.
Two teams have been shortlisted for stage one of the project, and have both submitted bids that include the option to extend to Russell.
“When evaluating the bids to select a preferred consortium, the ACT Government will decide whether including the extension to Russell is a strong investment decision,” Corbell added.
The minister told local press that he and his colleagues at the ACT government would look to lobby Australia’s federal government to provide some funding for future stages of the project.
