NSW Premier backs PPPs

New South Wales Premier Mike Baird has rejected criticisms of plans to deliver a light rail scheme through PPP.

Speaking on a visit to Newcastle in the state, Baird said a PPP would be a good option for the area’s proposed light rail project.

Defending the potential of a PPP following local opposition and concerns over ‘privatisation’, Baird said he had seen the use of private operators in rail projects improve customer satisfaction and provide more services.

Earlier this week, Baird revealed the winner of the bid to own and operate the electricity transmission network of New South Wales under a 99-year lease.
