Wates unveils restructure

Contractor Wates has announced a “business realignment” as part of its integration of recent acquisitions.

The firm has launched a construction group that will bring together its construction divisions, plus SES Engineering Services and its overall BIM and design function. This expanded construction arm will be led by Dave Smith, who becomes group managing director of the construction group, as well as chief operating officer for Wates.

Meanwhile, the company is also transferring the housing business that has traditionally sat within Wates Living Space to now form part of the expanded Wates residential developments business. It will be led by David Brocklebank, while Jo Jamieson will lead the Wates Living Space Homes business as part of the group reporting to Brocklebank.

Finally, Living Space Maintenance will have a standalone business within Wates Group and will be headed by David Morgan.

In recent months, Wates has acquired Purchase Group and Shepherd Built Environment Group, and chief executive Andrew Davies said the changes reflect the opportunity to create “clear synergies between some of our expanded business portfolio”.

He added: “This realignment has also helped us to be much more clearly focused on our three key strategic markets moving into 2016; construction, property services and residential developments.”
