Chaired by President Benigno Aquino, the board has given its backing to the planned regional prison facilities contract and the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX)-South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Connector Road Project.
Under the regional prison plan, a new prison will be built, financed and maintained by the private partner, with the facility accommodating up to 26,880 inmates. It will also include staff housing and administrative buildings.
Meanwhile, the connector road scheme is an 8km stretch of toll road that will link the two expressways. The deal was originally given approval again in February this year.
Earlier this week, the Philippines’ Public-Private Partnership Act of 2015 was voted through by the House committee on appropriations.
