Nigeria plans 7 transport PPPs

Nigeria’s Transportation Minister has said the federal government is to create seven new railway corridors through PPP.

Chibuike Amaechi has announced that the government will look to develop the lines of standard gauge railways and will look to introduce legislation that will make it easier to partner with the private sector for the developments.

“This initiative is aimed at remodelling and redevelopment of our major railway stations within the country,” he added.

The minister was speaking as he inaugurated the Port Harcourt - Aba Mass Transit Train Services PPP initiative.

Many countries across Africa are looking to expand their transport infrastructure through PPPs. Earlier this year, Kenya unveiled plans to bid out five road schemes during 2016.
