EIB mulls Dutch motorway

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is to consider financing a motorway PPP in the Rotterdam area.

The Blankenburg Tunnel PPP is now under appraisal, with the proposed allocation for the €1bn project not disclosed.

Under the plans for the scheme, a private partner will build a 4.2km six-lane motorway, incorporating below-river and land-based tunnels. The project also includes lowered connections to the A20 motorway and elevated connections to the A15 motorway.

The tender process was launched by Rijkswaterstaat in May 2016, with three letters of interest received in June 2016.

Construction is expected to commence in 2017.

Last month, Rijkswaterstaat issued a contract notice for the €975m A16 Rotterdam PPP.
