Peters is negotiating on behalf of his NZ First party with National and Labour politicians as they seek to break the deadlock caused by the recent election in which neither main party won enough seats to command a majority.
The poll has left both incumbent prime minister Bill English and Labour leader Jacinda Ardern (whose party is in partnership with the Greens) needing NZ First's support if either is to form a government.
Peters had previously said he would make his decision on Thursday 12 October, but has now indicated that the decision – or at least his announcement of that decision – could be postponed.
Instead, Peters told reporters that he would let the public know “as soon as possible”, but did not say whether that would be before the weekend.
NZ govt decision pushed back
The future make-up of New Zealand's government remains unclear, after 'kingmaker' Winston Peters indicated he may not announce his decision on Thursday, as previously expected.
