London judicial centre planned

The City of London Corporation is to undertake a feasibility study that will identify potential funding sources for a new judicial centre in the heart of the capital.

The organisation is to commission a feasibility study to analyse the cost implications and identify possible funding sources for a new court to be built in the Square Mile that would replace all the City’s current court services, apart from the Old Bailey.

Under the plans, the development would see the creation of a new combined court that would replace the historic civil court, the Mayor’s and City of London County Court and Magistrates’ Court.

While no funding model has yet been chosen, PPP has often been used in other countries over recent years to deliver upgrades to their courts provision, such as Ireland’s bundled project, which reached financial close in December 2015.
