French consortium to acquire Jordan PPP

A French-led consortium is to acquire the concessionaire of the Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan.

Aéroports de Paris (Groupe ADP), Meridiam and Bahrain’s ASMA Capital Partners have entered into exclusive negotiations to acquire Airport International Group (AIG), concessionaire of the airport in Amman.

Groupe ADP is currently a 9.5% shareholder of AIG through ADP International and is aiming for a majority and controlling stake.

Other shareholders are the Abu Dhabi Investment Company (Invest AD), Kuwait’s Noor, Jordan’s EDGO Group and Cypriot contractor Joannou & Paraskevaides (J&P). The airport welcomed 7.4 million passengers in 2016.

The transaction is expected to close prior to year-end, subject to the government of Jordan’s and project lenders’ consents.

The 25-year PPP deal reached financial close in 2007, and the terminal opened in 2013.

Meanwhile, the World Bank is seeking expressions of interest for consultants to develop a broadband PPP in Jordan.
