Five in for Kenya bridge PPP

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has received bids from five teams for the 2nd Nyali Bridge PPP.

The teams are; 

  • IHI, Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport & Urban Development, and Acciona
  • China Communication Construction Company
  • Strabag
  • Vinci Highways and Meridiam, and;
  • Mota Engil Africa, AIIM, Egis and Orascom.

The project which will involve the construction, operation and maintenance of a six-lane dual carriage bridge. The bridge is to be tolled. 

With an estimated cost of $200m, a private partner will design, build, finance, maintain, operate and transfer the new 600m bridge across Tudor Creek in Mombasa. Works also involve the delivery of 1.7km of new roads as well as the expansion of 5km of existing roads under a 30-year term.

Led by Deloitte, the transaction advisory team includes law firms Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr, IKM Advocates as part of DLA Piper, JBG Gauff Ingenieure and Earthcare Services. Bids were due last week following a deadline extension.
