Vinci acquires Australian contractor

Vinci has completed the acquisition of an Australian construction company as the French developer seeks to expand its reach in the Asia Pacific.

Queensland-based Seymour Whyte has joined Vinci Construction, after the French group bought 100% of its shares.

Jérôme Stubler, chairman of Vinci Construction, said: “Seymour Whyte is a company that resembles us, with a strong entrepreneurial culture. This acquisition will enable us to expand synergies with Vinci Construction’s existing expertise in Australia and more broadly in the Pacific area.”

Stubler  added the acquisition will enhance Vinci’s participation in roads, bridges, and water infrastructure projects in the region, following the addition of New Zealand group HEB Construction in 2015.

Seymour Whyte consists of Seymour Whyte Constructions, specialising in road projects, and Rob Carr, with a focus on water and pipeline infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Macquarie Atlas Road has completed the acquisition of a French motorway operator.
